About the Bikram Addict

I was an eighteen-year old lady then when I realized how my life has been a stress. Everyday, I go to school, carry the biggest books and exercise my brain for eight hours, with an hour for a break. It was but a normal routine for me. I seldom felt tiresome for doing my ordinary schemes. For me, it was just the way of life. It didn’t take me too long to realize that even the healthiest woman on earth can get into physical trouble.

I had a friend who happened to belong to the elites in our neighborhood. She often would ask me if I wanted to join their yoga club from which, according to her, she could get her energy to work and party at the same time almost everyday. I was in-doubt at first, and thought that she was just making fun out of me.

I sooner got interested asking her questions about yoga when I read these lines from a posted advertisement stating, “Yoga…the sure way to a relaxing spirit and body..” It was just in time when we were off to school but still feeling uneasy with my back. So, I decided to knock on to my neighbor and asked her details about this famous yoga.

My friend made a four-hour straight long story about Bikram yoga, its benefits and her experiences. I thought then that she’s like an addict. Well, I never thought that I’d be one either after a couple of weeks.

Just before I went to yoga classes, I had my annual check-up and x-ray. To my surprise, I discovered that I had a scoliosis. Wow. I thought, it would not give me any good to proceed to my planned yoga schedules. But my yoga addict friend told me that the more I should be into yoga. I believed her and went on with my yoga sessions.

For a week or two, I could immediately feel how yoga slowly moves something on my back, my arms, legs, and so on. I was a very flexible student the. I was a student leader and a volunteer. I did really tough tasks. But after doing yoga, I got amazed with how my body works. Yoga has the capability to massage not only my back, but more the internal muscles and organs which result to a more relaxing feeling. I gained a different kind of strength and take note, I lost ten pounds in my first month. It was a big wow for me. I wasn’t that stout, but I wasn’t sexy either. But it always makes us feel good whenever we feel sexy, though we don’t look lie one, right?

My mind was preoccupied with serious stuffs I was dealing with, with my school tasks and family matters. I looked like five years older than my original age. My friends usually call me ‘grandma’ of the group. They normally advised me to sit down, relax and never mind all my problems. I ignored them and thought that by thinking alone, I could have an idea on how to get out of trouble.

It was really a great idea when I entered this different kind of routine, yoga. Not only my body worked well but also the way I think. Yoga gives inner peace and serenity to completely put me into a sea of calmness and happiness.

Now, I’m into yoga for almost five years. I regularly attend Bikram yoga sessions. I work. I party. I face the world. And I enjoy life. Thanks to yoga.
