What do I Get from Stretching?

After long hours of working in front of the computer, or sitting for five hours straight in a cafeteria is a tiring thing to do. In fact, I often do both. And what results do I get? Back pain and stress. The ironic habit that I usually do is that I keep myself busy in doing my toil to earn for myself, but I eventually almost find myself looking for a good treatment for my back pain, thus I spend much than the money I worked for.

What I always forget is what my Bikram yoga teacher repeatedly inculcates into my mind. That is, to do stretching once in a while to keep my muscles healthy, and to help my body become more flexible. She always scares me that if I don’t, I’ll grow old a hunchback.

For how many years now, I do the stretching exercise the right way almost regularly, and it makes me feel relaxed and more capable of doing harder physical work. Precisely, Bikram introduces to me stretching as a way of enhancing our flexibility and lengthening our muscles that aid in increasing aptitude when we do shifting movements. I also notice that stretching improves my posture. My friends tease me that I’m a frustrated ramp model whenever I walk because they can see the way I walk and stand. I tell them that, I’m over with my past dream in life. What I really want now is to perk up my health, body and mind. And that’s why I’m into this yoga.

Flexibility exercises are normally done every after warming up our muscles, from an aerobic exercise perhaps. When we do flexibility exercise, we usually stretch our legs, arms; put more focus on our hips, neck, and other vital parts of our body which sore muscles should be freed, so as to make us feel lighter and stress-free. I spend a couple of seconds for each part of my body. It’s necessary not to bounce. That’s one thing I have in mind. Because if I do so, I know that the purpose of my exercise is defeated. I do stretching very gently so I won’t feel any pressure in my muscle or pain from moving after I do the Bikram stretching exercise.

Stretching is just one effective way of preparing my mind and my body for the next activity that I need to do. This is the best thing that I’m always happy about, whenever I’m done with my stretching. It’s because, I have all the energy and mood to proceed to my business. And I definitely am aware of, that even some things are physically hard to do, I still have a vigor left at the end of the day to keep me going after work.
